Learner rider course

Learner rider course – 1.5 hours
This course is suitable if you have little or no experience of riding a manual motorcycle with a clutch and gears.
You will receive 1.5 hours of one-to-one professional and friendly training from a highly experienced, highly qualified, and patient instructor.
We provide you with a well-maintained motorcycle (included in the cost).
It is possible to use your own motorcycle should you wish – please contact us to discuss machine suitability.
We’ll also provide a helmet, gloves, and jacket if you don’t have your own.
We’ll even try to provide some waterproof jacket and pants if it’s raining (subject to availability).
The Learner rider course covers:
- Familiarisation with the motorbike and controls
- Moving off
- Riding in a straight line
- Stopping
- Using the clutch and changing gears
- Riding a curve
- Signalling
- Riding figure of eights
- Moving off at right angles
- Observation techniques
- Parking
- Emergency stops
- Familiarisation and preparation for the BHST test
On completion of the course, you will be debriefed and advised on how to progress further. This is dependent on the progress you have made and may mean signing up for a further Learner rider course, or as we find in most cases signing up for a Basic handling skills test course (the next stage).
This course does not include the basic handling skills test.
